Why Mozambique?

One hundred and ninety-six countries exist in the world today. So, why Mozambique? We’re glad you asked. There are a lot of reasons the MOF team became connected with Mozambique, but it all began with a passionate woman by the name of Carolyn Belshe, was was tasked by the by Methodist church leadership in 1990 to start an orphanage to help those impacted by the Civil War in Mozambique. This war lasted from 1977-1992 and destroyed an insurmountable amount of families and homes.

The civil war ravaged the Sub-Saharan African country, and it is currently the 7th poorest country in the world. Despite this, Mozambicans exemplify radical faith through extravagant generosity, passionate worship, and radical hospitality. They display hope that is unshakable, joy that is unbreakable. We honor their humble and persistent attitudes, and we walk alongside them as they work to repair their country.

We believe one of the best ways to repair a country is to restore children’s future. And with comprehensive support, MOF intends to do that for each child that enters an MOF orphanage. We know many countries struggle with the same issues Mozambique faces – but we also believe God specifically called us to this land. MOF is obeying the Lord’s call to defend the oppressed in Mozambique, and we pray Jesus draws others to join in our efforts as well.
